This illustration was part of the concept stage for Wikicurious, a branch of Wikimedia NYC. Wikicurious is an event designed to teach beginners how to edit Wikipedia articles.
During the discovery phase, we learned that “wiki” means “quick” in Hawaiian, so we placed the character atop a speeding Wiki-ball. They’re shown updating a Wikipedia page using the references surrounding them.
This concept brings the requested playful, creative vibe while appealing to beginners through its use of simple, accessible shapes. The subtle Avatar reference also nods to the “nerd crowd” this event is designed to attract.
As an ongoing event series, this graphic was created for Wikicurious at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.

This graphic was created for one of the initial launches of Wikicurious at Civic Hall in NYC. Wikicurious travels all over the world connecting Wikimedians on one main goal, making knowledge free and accessible. We concepted and designed the graphic for digital & print.
